In this weeks reading I didn't feel like a really related to anything. I have been to Italy though and one thing that really caught my eye was the Gates of Paradise. I was very young when I went to Italy, but the most vivid thing that I do remember was going into a church where almost everything was covered in gold. There were even glass tombs with gold edges to keep them together that had the corpses of past priests. The intricate gold in the panels of the Gates of Paradise and the tombs in that church made me think of a link to heaven. Gold to me is bright and luxurious and so is the idea of Heaven. Maybe not so much luxurious but you know that something beyond your wildest dreams lies there. Gold for some, even me, is magical. Not everyone has a piece and it really never goes out of style. It holds its own holyness.

ReplyDeleteI love gold! The Gates of Paradise is truely an extraordinary piece.. it's amazing that you got the chance to see it in person! It does make me think of a link to heaven; it's very surreal, magical and soo decadent in its own way. How would it look to paint a room gold? I wonder...would love to visit that room! I would pick gold jewlery over silver anyday (even if silver supposedly matches my skin tone better)
